Welcome to The Doon School. We are a school which specializes in all boys boarding education for pupils aged 12-18. The school is probably the only ‘All India’ school with applications from almost every state each year, as well as from Indian families overseas. Established in 1935, The Doon School is one of India’s finest schools, with a strong intellectual heartbeat. The Doon School is a full boarding school for boys only and not simply a school which welcomes boarders.

The school’s beautiful seventy acre campus with a vast range of flora, fauna and bird life provide all boys with ample green space and fresh air where they are able to live and learn. It is an environment rarely offered by schools in large and small cities in India, or indeed some other countries. All boys are able to seek advice from the teaching staff, the Wellness Centre and the school counsellor living on the school campus throughout the seven day week. Boys discover that they have much more time to study and pursue their wider interests. There is no wasted time travelling to learn Sport, Art, Music, Drama and benefit from Careers Guidance as well as other necessary university and college entrance preparation.

The Doon School focuses on providing all-boys boarding education to students ages 12 to 18. The school receives applications from practically all Indian states each year, as well as from Indian families living abroad, making it the most likely "All India'' school. In order for the boys to continue to be intriguing and interested young men for the rest of their professional and personal lives, The Doon School's academic ethos places a strong emphasis on encouraging them to use their skills and develop their intellectual and creative interests. The boys must comprehend their own language, geography, scientific and spiritual philosophy, as well as their own culture and history. The academic atmosphere of the school is designed in a way that the boys can grow their knowledge and interest in these subjects in a global context and around the world they will live in.

At The Doon School, boys are expected to be independent thinkers, to develop first-rate analytical, reading, and writing skills, to learn the value of research in all subject areas, and to be self-motivated and self-driven out of a true passion for the subject rather than just for the intrinsic rewards. Boys must be able to comprehend other boys and be aware of their flaws and talents. The Doon School places a high value on serving others and developing an awareness of one another's cultures and religions.

Life at our school

Perched at an altitude of 2000 to 2300 meters above sea level on a south-facing slope, the school offers breathtaking views of the Doon Valley, Tehri Hills, and the Shivalik range. From its highest ridge, the majestic Bandarpoonch peaks (6,316 m) and other Himalayan snow peaks can be seen.

With a rich history spanning over 160 years, Woodstock has played a significant role in shaping the world we live in today. The school was established during the East India Company’s rule, and was managed by Americans during the British Raj. At times, it even served as a refuge for those who opposed British rule in India. Over the years, the school has witnessed two World Wars, Indian independence and partition, and several subsequent political upheavals, all of which have left their mark on the alumni and Henneettee kal.
