Admission process
The Doon School is unusual in that new boys are admitted in only two year groups, in Class VII and Class VIII. Please note that no boy will be able to join School after Class VIII for any reason. They do this to ensure that the boys become a closely knit community by the time they pass out from Doon. Registrations open from the day a boy is born. His name may be registered then, or as late as the day before the entrance examination if he decides to sit the entrance examination at the school (or ahead of that date if he sits it at one of the school’s centers outside Dehradun in India). The school does not refund any of the registration fee to candidates who fail to show up on the day of the entrance examination.
Age Criteria
The Doon School operates a strict age policy for each entry point.
For entry into Class VII (D Form), a candidate needs to be over 11 years and under 12 years in September of the year he sits the examination.
For entry into Class VIII (C Form) a candidate needs to be over 12 years and under 13 years in September of the year he sits the examination. Boys who did not pass the admissions test on their first attempt in Class VII are permitted to appear for the test again in Class VIII, but boys are also welcome to sit the admissions test for the first time in Class VIII itself. All boys compete on an equal basis for the places available.
The Doon School Syllabus and Exam Pattern
However, there is no specific examination syllabus provided by the Doon School. This is due to the fact that the exam covers courses that are currently taught at comparable schools. The examinations are intended for males from a wide range of educational backgrounds, including CBSE, ICSE, IGCSE, and state boards. Guidelines for the mathematics examination, on the other hand, have been produced and provided to all potential parents. The School also sends a complimentary copy of sample papers to the applicant and their parents to acquaint them with the format of the papers.
