The curriculum encourages students to understand basic concepts and develop a base through which to inform their approach to higher learning. Project and activity based learning are introduced in the Junior School even while classroom pedagogy becomes content centric. Interdisciplinary learning is a big part of Middle School pedagogy. Students are trained to become independent learners and approach a subject hands-on. The Research Lab and the Learning Resource Center become vehicles towards realising these. Subject specific laboratories for Science, English, Mathematics and Geography provide more legroom for focussed learning. Also, this school is an English medium school, so, all the interactions of students take place in the English Language. Hindi is also a language in the curriculum.
The Welham Boys School Alumni were also extremely interested in tree cultivation and forestation. Rajiv Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi, Mani Shanker Aiyer, and Zayed Khan are among the well-known alumni of the Welham boy’s school.
Rajiv Gandhi was one of the first ministers of the generation of young at the age of 41 and the first elected Indian in history. He graduated from Welham Boys School. After finishing high school, Mr. Gandhi enrolled in Trinity College in Cambridge, but he was soon moved to Imperial College in London. He enrolled in an engineering class. He was not especially interested in "screwing for his examinations," as he would say later. He used to be the most enthusiastic continuous flyer. It came as no surprise when he aced the Delhi Flying Club entrance test after his return from England, got his commercial pilot's licence, and soon joined Indian Airlines, the country's flag carrier.
He received a formal education in music at the Welham Boys School in Dehradun, where he also created classical music. He also picked up the drums, guitar, piano, harmonium, and other playable instruments. By the time he was eighteen, vocalist Zubin was well known across Dehradun. He sponsored various philanthropic organisations while performing live on stage numerous times.
As Mani Ratnam's associate director, Shaad Ali began his professional career. He made his acting debut in Saathiya (2002), produced by Yash Raj Films and Madras Talkies, and co-stars with Rani Mukerji and Vivek Oberoi. The movie was a remake of the 2000 Tamil film Alaipayuthe by Mani Ratnam. Ratnam wrote the Saathiya movie's screenplay. The movie was good, and Shaad Ali gained recognition in the business.
Sanjay Gandhi attended the Dehradun Welham Boys School. He had a tremendous interest for sports cars, and in 1976 he also got his pilot's licence. He was passionate about acrobats and excelled in the discipline. He was made Secretary-General of the Congress Party in May 1980. Gandhi was a fantastic option for prime minister because he had a lot of vim and energy, a devoted following, a wide network of connections, and his surname behind him. His steadfast authoritarianism and disdain for the legislative process and governance led to a number of issues, though. In 1980, he perished in a sad incident.
Indian actor and producer Zayed Abbas Khan works in Hindi film. He has been nominated for a Filmfare Award and is the son of Bollywood comedian Sanjay Khan. He graduated from Welham Boys School and made his acting debut in Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne in 2003. He gave a performance in 2004 at Main Hoon Na, which was one of his biggest hits.
